Annual Paper Drive!!
May 5 – June 2 ~Help us to build a Toilet Paper Mountain!!
The goal is to supplement the needs of the Jordan Area Food Shelf and we are asking everyone to consider helping out with this project. Food Shelves get their food from companies designed to supply them with food. However, paper products such as paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, feminine products and laundry/dish detergent are not supplied. Food shelves either have to buy them or rely on donations. If you can help, but don’t want to shop, you can drop off a monetary donation in the church office ~ any amount is appreciated!
Why do we have the annual paper drive in honor of Darrell Nelson? The Jordan Area Food Shelf opened its doors in October, 2009 and Darrell Nelson was a driving force in seeing that happen. He worked diligently looking for a spot to house the facility, and once the location was found he spent hours cleaning and making repairs.
Once the Food Shelf was up and running, Darrell was there several times a week, working on various projects, arranging shelves, etc. So, why did Darrell care so much? Part of it was just him believing in something and getting it done. Part of it was his love for people. He was always the first one in line to help someone with anything needed. Part of it was his love for Jordan. He believed in helping those in need and the Jordan Area Food Shelf fills a huge need for many Jordan families. Sadly, we lost Darrell in 2011, but the food shelf that he cared so much about continues to operate and help hundreds of families every year.
